Internet-based activities - Describing a school

Summary: Internet-based revision lesson for Reward Elementary (Units 1-5 )

Grammar revision

Start the lesson with revision of grammar structures introduced in Units 1-5.

Students do the exercises:

School 'welcome' page

Start with a warm-up exercise. Ask students to brainstorm a list of words or expressions they can use to describe their school (in English or in their mother tongue). Then write the list on the blackboard.

Online

Translation practise

Open English IQ and show the students how to use a translator. Tell them to translate the new words.

Reading

Students open thePembroke College homepage and answer True/False questions:

  1. The school is in Oxford.
  2. There are forty colleges in Oxford.
  3. The University of Oxford consists of 39 colleges.
  4. There are four hundred students in Pembroke college.
  5. Pembroke College isn't a part of Oxford University.

Then they visit the "computing" page of Pembroke College and answer the questions:

  1. How many computer rooms are there?
  2. Are they open during holidays?
  3. Are they open on Mondays?
  4. How many computers are there in the Macmillan Building 1940s Computer Room?
  5. How many computers are there in the G.A.B. IBM Computer Room?
  6. How many computers are there in the MCR Computer Room?
  7. Which computer room is located at the student residence at Geoffrey Arthur Building?
  8. How many printers are there altogether?

Offline (or homework)

Students write a similar 'welcome' page for their school.
